Artist Spotlight at The Rodeo: Chicken-Like Birds
A Canadian country, blues, and ragtime duo, Chicken-Like Birds is Ari Lantela and Jasmin Frederickson. This duo’s old-time original songs are charmingly old-fashioned.
After meeting each other at an open mic in Calgary, Chicken-Like Birds moved to Salmon Arm, British Columbia together. Their music combines slap-stick humour, adding the right amount of fun when tackling serious topics such as, the rise of the independent woman. Since opening for Curtis Salgado two years after the bands inception, Chicken-Like Birds plays at countless music festivals.
This country and ragtime duo has recorded albums and extended plays that can be found online for purchase. Produced and recorded in Little Island Studios on Bowen Island by Winston Hauschild, their extended play titled, Moving On, was recently released in March 2017.
Moving On is a five track selection accompanied by multiple musical instruments, which adds to its polish and helps this country duo shine their edges and enhance their tone. The musicians include: Liam MacDonald (drummer), Chris Gestrin and Winston Hauschild (keyboardists), and John Bastelic (violinist and violist).
Chicken-Like Birds is getting ready to go on tour with their first date at the 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Coffee House at Brittania on Sunday June 25th in Vancouver, British Columbia and at the Rolla Pub in Rolla, British Columbia on Friday August 11th.
