“Simple music is the hardest music to play and blues is simple music.” - Albert Collins
And it’s also the best music to listen to! So, what have we in store for us in the coming weeks?
The Mighty Duck Blues Band
They keep the blues a rollin’ in St. Catharines at the Bar Upstairs, Saturday afternoons, with special guest artists. Coming soon Steve Marriner of MonkeyJunk will drop by and just take a gander at who else is on the list.
And keep an eye on April 7 cause Suzzie Vinnick will be there with her brand-new cd, Shake the Love Around. And don’t forget to pick up a copy of the Mighty Duck Blues Band’s cd, Duck Soup. It’s a testament to the band and how well they perform.
Here’s their official video
Speaking of Suzie, she has her cd release party on Wednesday, April 4 at Hugh’s Room in Toronto and another as well on April 14th in Dunnville at the Flyers Café.
Sue is set to release her newest cd, Ice Queen, on March 2nd. She’s having a cd release party in Kitchener Ontario on February 24th. Here’s all the info you need.
And keep listening to Blues Blast as we’ll also be featuring a new cd from Mike Goudreau entitled Alternate Takes;

I figured each week I’d turn the spotlight on a different blues artist, but this week I’m gonna veer from that practice. I will indeed profile someone, but this time I’m going to profile one of the biggest music supporters in Hamilton.
You really can’t meet a nicer person. Judy Marsales is the epitome of class and brings a ton of backing to music projects in the Hamilton area.
Born in Winnipeg, she moved to Hamilton in 1972 and served as a member of the legislature in 2003.
She started a career in real estate and then established her own business, Judy Marsales Real Estate Ltd., in January 1988. This year marks her 30th year in business.
What I love about Judy Marsales is that she’s passionate about promoting Hamilton and its music scene. She hosts her own radio show entitled ‘Sold on Hamilton’, and frequently invites community guests to join her on air.
Judy sings regularly with a group known as Judy and The Noteworthies and she sits on so many committees, there just isn’t enough room in this blog to list them.
But we can highlight some of the many involvements she’s had. Judy has been an active member of numerous music incentives such as the Hamilton Music Collective (An Instrument for Every Child), Hamilton & District Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, The Hamilton Music Strategy Group and the Advisory Committee of the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band.
Her passion for music is evident by the many music events she sponsors. Hamilton is fortunate to have a booster like Judy Marsales. A tip of the blues fedora to her and everything she does for this community.
We’ll be back next week with another blog. In the meantime, keep listening to Blues Blast on Thursdays at 8 on Blues and Roots Radio.
