We’ll continue last week’s thread of highlighting some of the great new blues releases that have continued to prove Canada’s blues artists are second to none !
Steve Hill – One Man Blues Rock Band
The title says it all. When this guy hits the stage, you know you’re getting a dynamite performance. A live cd of 14 tunes that wraps up with All Along the Watchtower. See if you have the energy to listen to this cd straight through – it’s a knockout
Carlos del Junco & The Blues Mongrels – Hang On
When Carlos picks up his harmonica, his distinctive sound lets you know instantly who’s blowing the harp.
David Vest - Self Titled
Multiple Maple Blues award winner, keyboardist David Vest follows up his last release, Devastating Rhythm, with a thoroughly enjoyable cd.
Sugar Brown – It’s A Blues World
Ken Kawashima, who is quite the blues traditionalist and is also a Professor at the University of Toronto, lays down some great tracks on his latest release. In this release he highlights his prowess on electric guitar.
Myles Goodwyn - Myles Goodwyn & Friends of the Blues
Myles Goodwyn, former lead of April Wine, has called upon a who’s who of Friends of the Blues to put this rockin’ cd together. He’s joined by the likes of David Wilcox, Rick Derringer, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne and Jack de Keyzer.
Jordan Officer - Three Rivers
This is Jordan Officer’s fourth album and it’s serious music. This year he’ll be touring Quebec, Europe and the U.S.A. with his unique sound.
Manitoba Hal - Blues Is In The Water
Manitoba Hal is known for his expertise on the ukulele. But let me tell you, it’s not a Hawaiian luau. This cd gets your toes a tappin’ and he deserves your attention.
Moondog Howlers – My Way Home
This is one heck of a cd with 13 songs of high-octane music. This band is on the rise.
Crystal Shawanda – Voodoo Woman
Crystal made her mark in the country music world. But on this cd, she jumps into the blues world with one hell of a splash. She’s amazing and hopefully she continues to produce more great blues releases.
Joshua Arden Miller and the Bay City Blues Band - Bootleg
Joshua is the leader of the Pappy Johns Band and this live cd really gets cooking with the Bay City Blues Band Live.
Jay Kipps Band – How To Polish Your Longhorns
Solid guitar work, great rhythm section and a honking harmonica. This band has it all
The Mike Clark Band – Forever People
Mike Clark is one of Canada’s premiere Horn Player and has been nominated for his talent by the Maple Blues Awards three consecutive years.
Justin Saladino Band – A Fool’s Heart
Montrealer Justin Saladino straps on his guitar to showcase great music from heavy blues/rock riffs to folky acoustic tones.
Riot and the Blues Devils – The Roxboro Sessions
Riot is such an appropriate name for this band ‘cause they just tear down every venue they play in. Their fifth album.
Jay Sewell – Payin My Dues -Fifty Years of Blues
The title says it all. This guy knows how to play the blues with feeling developed after years of performing.
Cliff Stevens – Live In Germany
Be careful of this cd. It’s burning hot and it’s likely to sear your fingers cause you can tell Cliff’s fingers are on fire as he shreds his way through this live performance.
And that’s it for now - more new cds coming in the next few weeks.
