G'day and Ho Ho Ho Folks,
Firstly, I want to thank all of the readers - near and far - and all of the homegrown Aussie talent who have been responsible for the music that I have been talking about. I plan to go to a lot more gigs next year and there are so many great albums coming out in the first few months of the year and dare I say - if it is anything like the last two years - it will be going on through the year.
Tamworth is coming up next month, one of the few years that I will miss due to work commitments, but it will be big. Early next month, I will start talking about Tamworth big time as it is a big date on our music calendar.
I have posted a few photos - of many - of some of our artists that I have run into during the year (these were taken at Tamworth)
We have such a wonderful crop of artists in this country, many who you will never hear of internationally, but they are just as good or better than artists from other countries who are more known to listeners.
The Alt. Country/Americana scene is getting stronger and stronger by the minute.
New albums are coming through by Melissa Robertson, Susan Lily, Lachlan Bryan, Sally-Anne Whitten, Marie Hodson, Allison Forbes, Anthony Taylor, Ben Ransom, Col Finley, Tamara Stewart, Tyson Lucas and many more. I will let you know as they come through. There are a lot of young ones who are putting out singles and EPs too.
The festivals start early in January and they are getting more prominent on the gig scene. These include all types of music, with a strong emphasis on country music, folk music and blues and roots.
I think that a lot of our younger ones will get even bigger in 2018. There is a lot of raw talent out there.
I hope that you all have a great Christmas and New Year. We don't exactly spend it like the Northern Hemisphere because of the weather, but we do spend it with family and friends, those who believe, go to church and we all sing carols and eat too much and listen to lots of music.
Here are a mixture of tracks old and new.
