It is the last day of Summer down under, but that's okay. It will be Autumn (or Fall) tomorrow, and I love that. I am so lucky to be living in a country that produces great music. I hope that I have introduced you all to some really awesome stuff. Please check out the artists websites and youtube clips.
I implore you to check their websites, Itunes and any avenue that you can to listen to our talented artists.
I was lucky enough to only have to walk 2 minutes from my home on Saturday night to check out one of my fave songwriters, Michael Waugh, who appeared with locals Khristian Mizzi and Tayla Gayne. Just awesome. All three artists are ones to listen to and watch. Michael's current album is just awesome, produced by Shane Nicholson (who is one of our greatest). It was a beaut night.
I have a bit of a dilemma in the next two weekends. I am definitely going down to Melbourne the weekend after this one, to see The Americana gig with The Weeping Willows, Matt Joe Gow, Gretta Ziller and Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes. Also on that weekend are Lyn Bowtell and Rick Hart and Chris WIlliams on the Sunday. That is all locked in, but this weekend, Andrew Swift has his launch (can't wait for that album), Katie Brianna is down in Melbourne doing a gig at The Retreat and Shane Nicholson is on the Sunday. I would love to be able to go down to Melbourne two weekends in a row, but I don't think that I can. I may have to just go the weekend after next and see the others later.
It is a good headache to have.
Locally, we have a folk festival on. In Sydney, the Sydney Country Music Festival is on. Sadly, it does not feature many Indies or many females. I am not sure about the way that they set this festival up. I am glad that they are making an effort to bring the country to the city but I am not sure that it is all there in the heart.
I wrote a review on Susan Lily's new album which is so cool....it is such a great mix of a lot of country music types. When I first started my blog Susan and Lachlan Bryan's albums were the first to be recognised by overseas blogs. It is apt that I review their new albums in the same week. Please check these reviews out on CountryAs.
New albums and lots of gigs are coming up in the next few weeks. It seems to be the season!
The beauty of a Lachlan Bryan album is that he doesn't produce a lot of them....it is quality over quantity. When they are with us, they stay with us.
