After writing lots of new reviews on my new blog Cowgirl Up on the weekend, as well as having to create the new blog because of technical hitches, I didn't see any one LIVE at a gig. That will be fixed this weekend coming with some special events. (More about that later). I had to work so I didn't get to see the launch of Rose Zita Falko's new EEP, but trust me, it is a beauty, and the first review on Cowgirl Up. You can also check out Montgomery Church, another amazing duo, this time from The Snowy Mountains in New South Wales. A very folky, rootsy album, which is great. There are some great American albums coming through which are very Americana and not that other bubble gum country that we have been hearing the last few years. I have reviewed some good ones. You can still go to CountryAs and A Country Hattitude. There are links on my new blog, I just can't do reviews on them.
I have been listening to a lot of Community Radio shows lately and the standard of music that is coming through in Australia is outstanding. I am looking forward to some more new releases soon, with folks starting to release singles as teasers for the big releases later in the year. We are all gearing up for Hats Off in Tamworth. I just need my flights and I am set. I have a few gigs to go to over the next few weeks, including a special event on Sunday in Melbourne to help support the Black Dog Foundation and it is in honour of our dear friend, Tom Fauvette, whom we lost recently. Hopefully, we can raise some awareness for Depression and all that goes with it.
I will also be going to see two of my favourite Australian songwriters, Lloyd Clarke and Michael Waugh soon at a house concert.
Kirsty Lee Akers and Tamara Stewart spend most of their time in the U.S.A. these days. Tamara is about to release a long awaited album and Kirsty Lee Akers releases hers in July. The latter has often been described as Australia's dark haired version of Dolly Parton, so that should give you a good idea about her personality and her talent. Tamara is one of our most gifted singer/songwriters who has written many songs for others. This album is going to be a fabulous one, I am sure. She has been working hard in Nashville. Kristy is more of a country rock artist. She can bring the house down.Travis is one of our most loved artists and he started very young, as did Kirsty Lee. He never fails to deliver. His album is out soon.
