Another busy week on the Irish Country Music Scene in Ireland, I hope you’ve all had a good one wherever you’ve been.
This week’s blog has a little on last weekend’s Ballymore Festival, news on a new upcoming video recording, details of a gig not to be missed in North America/Canada, catch the young Irish band currently on tour in America, details of the young male musician embarking on his first Irish tour, find out how to submit nominations for an upcoming awards ceremony and details of festivals/events as well as dates for your diary.
As always I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to email me on
Last Sunday morning I looked out the window and the thoughts of a country music festival in the rain with kids seemed dismal, but I had committed to going so we packed up and set off to Ballymore in Westmeath; how glad I was that we did!
Directions to the event were clear, the staff were helpful and efficient and the crowd was lively, even the rain decided to hold off. It was a fantastic day all round.
Eddie Rowley introduced each act onto stage in his usual jovial efficient manner. Marty Mone was on stage when we arrived and caused great excitement for my kids. My little boy is a farm boy through and through and Hit the Diff plays regularly in our house, unfortunately we had to break it to Marty that Tiarnan had ditched him for harvest but wanted a video to say hi, which of course was done there and then. Thanks Marty to quote Tiarnan you’re ‘a legend’!! The girls were happy with their photo and autograph.
There was a decent sized dance floor which was filled with dancers all day. Everyone was treated to music and lots of hits from Jake Carter, Barry Kirwan, Cliona Hagan, Robert Mizzell, Michael English, Mike Denver and Derek Ryan. An all round fantastic performance from everyone.
The artists displayed dedication to their fans spending lots of time on meet and greets, Everyone had the opportunity to have a photo taken or get an autograph. Fair play to these artists for taking the time out, in my opinion it can’t be easy when you’re tired or in a hurry to another event.
In addition to the music and dancing, there was face painting and magic shows for the kids and plenty of food and drink on offer.
Ballymore, Congratulations on 2017 see you all next year.
My own kids have been well and truly countrified this week!! In addition to attending Ballymore, two of the girls were lucky enough to be involved in the making of a country music video.
The excitement when Naoise (10) and Roise (6) applied to take part in a recording with Nathan Carter was sweet and innocent, but when they actually got the email of approval there were no words to describe their reaction.
On Monday morning we set off to a beach in Co Meath for the first recording sequence and then it was on to a location in Cavan for a school and BBQ scene. Older children had attended an amusement park before joining the rest of the crew in Cavan. Savee Entertainment were efficient and welcoming to all involved, and the day was fun filled and a great experience for the children. Nathan had time for every little child and big child, providing autographs and taking photos with everyone; he even found time to serve up some burgers! It was great to catch up with John Farry as well who as always was also present and working hard.
I think Nathan seemed a little surprised to see Roise (6) belt out #summertime word for word during the recording which was funny!! The song is on his latest album Livin the Dream which knocked Ed Sheehan’s latest release out of my car and is on repeat constantly. My kids love their music, thankfully they have good taste.
I can’t wait to see the result of the recording and wish Nathan and Savee Entertainment the very best with the production.
Whilst we are on the subject of Nathan Carter, he announced some really exciting news during the week, Blues and Roots Radio fans can expect him in a venue near them this September. Nathan will be travelling to North America and Canada on tour during September with Chloe Agnew from Celtic Woman
If you can get to one of the venues you won’t be disappointed!! Please make sure you send in photos if you’re there so we can share what happens at a Nathan gig across the Atlantic with all his Irish Fans.
I’ve mentioned Ruaile Buaile a few times since this blog started, and again have to say they are a fantastic young up and coming Irish band; if you haven’t heard them live and get the chance you won’t be disappointed.
They are currently on a US Tour sponsored by Culture Ireland and are having an amazing time stateside. Dates as follows:
I would like to take this opportunity to wish them a safe journey and every success with their tour.
The younger of the Carter brothers is embarking on his debut Irish Tour. Jake Carter will be on the Harvest Country Music festival lineout at the end of August in Westport and Enniskillen.
His recent release #havinaparty is being very well received

Before I sign off for this week just two quick notes......
Firstly, a get well soon to Ed Holland from Hurricane Highway. To all his fans: his voice is resting and he will be good to go for Harvest so don’t worry !! Can’t wait to catch up with you Ed at one of the Harvest venues.
Finally I would like to extend my sympathies to Glen Campbells Family. Glen passed away this week, he will be missed by many but his legacy will live on.
Rest In Peace Glen and please keep singing from the great beyond.
Until next week enjoy every magical musical note, and in the words written by Bobby Austin and Curt Sapaugh, performed by Glen Campbell ‘Try a little kindness, shine your light for everyone to see’.
