Hello from BRR HQ
Do you ever think that you are getting ahead ? ... and then someone comes up with a great idea and you think, wow ! that's cool ! ... and then you realize the guy who is going to make it happen is... errr ... you !
I had one of those moments last week, let me tell you, when things like this are presented it's inspirational, that people freely give their ideas and advice just blows me away, Blues & Roots Radio has had so many of these moments recently and we are very grateful.
Sometimes when you are in a situation and your head is down busy working, you don't see the bigger picture, being so involved makes you unaware of how others perceive or see things, I am always learning and always open to change, if it's for the better, I think it's necessary to keep things fresh and hopefully exciting for everyone involved.
Last week was a light bulb moment, it has made us explore opportunities, add new content and give things a tweek or two in the right places.
As is always the case at Blues & Roots Radio there are multiple things happening at once, we have new feature writers, a brand new radio show launching this weekend and we have some new features that are happening to our website.
Yes that Kat Goldman !
I am super excited to say that over the last couple of weeks I have been working with Kat on a brand new series of articles called ' The Disgruntled Songwriter ' where she will be sharing some musings of life as a modern day songwriter, there are already about 6 articles in the bag, two of which will be presented when we launch the pages on May 1st... so stay tuned for that ! ... and .. did I mention she is pretty funny !
Since releasing her debut album, The Great Disappearing Act (produced by JUNO winner Gavin Brown) in 2002, Kat Goldman has been regarded as one of Canada’s best singer/songwriters. Her work has been covered by an array of international artists, including Grammy nominees The Duhks, and prolific American singer-songwriter Dar Williams who has long been one of Kat’s great supporters. One of the album’s standout tracks, “Annabel,” has been featured in a number of television series and documentaries, along with being quoted in author Kathleen Winter’s Giller Prize-nominated novel of the same name.
Her 2007 sophomore album Sing Your Song came after she survived nearly being killed by a car crashing through a store window, and the record’s inspirational tone earned widespread acclaim, including being named one of CBC Radio’s Top 10 albums of that year.
In 2009, she began studying English Literature at Boston University, which had a strong influence on her next album, 2013’s Gypsy Girl, which explored her wanderlust and yearning for home.
Now with her latest release The Workingman’s Blues, Kat Goldman fully evokes her time in Boston when violence and racial tension were on the rise, due largely to a decline in sustainable employment.
Watch out for the first article May 1st
NEW RADIO SHOW APRIL 28th
Jamie & Ian's New Horizons
We are launching a brand new show on the BRR Essential channel on Saturday April 28th at 2pm EDT, 7pm GMT featuring content tailored exclusively for Blues & Roots Radio by Ian O'Regan and Jamie Sinclair, they will be presenting roots, americana, country blues, folk, rock and more weekly. The show will also be repeated each Monday evening at 10pm EDT.
Both Ian and Jamie have broad musical tastes and are a lot of fun which you'll soon find out, I reckon it's going to be a huge hit and I hope you can tune in and find out more.
We will be launching a new look website this weekend, as I said at the start of the blog we have had some amazing input from industry professionals and have been working on some tweeks to the existing site, we hope it makes for a more engaging visit.
With continued growth in traffic and visitors to the site, which is in excess of 2.5 million a year, we felt it necessary to update, refresh and make everyone's visit an easy and enjoyable experience. We always embrace change, especially when advice is being given by those whose knowledge we value.
Big thank you to all those that have helped us, you all know who you are, we appreciate everything you have done.
now... I have to get back to building bloody website pages :)
Until next week !
