I hope you are all having a great week, my blog generally comes out on a Thursday, but I am a bit busy from today onwards so I am publishing early.
It's a packed full week in the USA and up here in my part of Canada as it's Folk Alliance International week in Missouri, USA and also it's Toronto's Winterfolk Blues & Roots Festival so I thought this week I'd leave a couple of links to those events and I also wanted to highlight some new releases and a brand new show which has been commissioned for Blues and Roots Radio from Australia that might have slipped ' Under The Radar '
With over 200 official showcases and 3000 unofficial showcases Folk Alliance International is the biggest event of it's kind in the world.
Here is a short video put together by FAI to give an overview.
Owners of Blues & Roots Radio Anne Connor, Neil Mitchell ( Australia ) and myself will be in attendance in 2019 in Montreal, Canada, it's been a couple of years since we have made the trip to the event. We are looking forward to that.
Instead of making the trip to Folk Alliance which has been held in Kansas City for the last couple of February's, we have instead stayed closer to home and been in attendance at the Winterfolk Blues & Roots Festival which takes place from February 15th - 18th in Toronto.
It's always a fun weekend in a very cool part of the city, The weather outside can be cool as well at this time of the year, so wrap up well, one of the great things about this festival is that all the venues are indoors, it's a great line up again this year and well worth purchasing a weekend wristband to allow you to move from venue to venue along The Danforth.
Look out for Dirty Dishes who are a kick-in-the-pants harmony-driven roots trio. Fourth album to be released this spring.
Dirty Dishes are well known for their spirited music, tight three-part-harmonies, and entertaining live shows. Alongside strong poetic writing that celebrates a saucy female spirit, and often backed by their rhythm section “The Plate Rails” (Jay Boehmer and Henry Heillig), the Dishes have spent over ten years breaking hearts and soothing souls at theatres, fairs, festivals and events throughout Canada.
