Blues & Roots Fest
Hello to all from Blues and Roots Radio HQ in Port Credit, Ontario.
Summer typically is a time when not many new albums are being released, in saying that though, there have been one or two stellar discs that have come to my attention in the month of July and into August from publicists that have made me sit up and take notice.
One artist in particular who we have been featuring is from Newfoundland, her album ' Benefit Of The Doubt ' is spectacular, you should own a copy .... her name is Kellie Loder
Festival season is very much underway and with the beautiful weather ( albeit very hot in places ) it is perfect for taking in your favourite artists and gives you the chance to find more you may not have heard about.
I am heading to the Summerfolk Arts and Crafts Festival in Owen Sound, many artists who I know personally will be there, all have new releases and I'm sure will be performing songs from them as well as from their back catalogues.
Who am I looking forward to seeing perform ?
Stephen Fearing for sure is one, his album ' Every Soul's A Sailor ' was named as the inaugural Blues and Roots Radio Worldwide Album Of The Year, he performs as a solo artist as well as part of the amazing Canadian supergroup Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, he is definitely not to be missed.
Another must see artist ...
Suzie has released a fabulous album called ' Shake The Love Around ' it's her first release in a couple of years and, boy, was it worth the wait, she has to be one of Canada's top guitarists, and please note, I did not say female guitarist, she ranks right up there amongst the greatest and when you get an endorsement from the likes of Tony D ( Monkeyjunk ) that speaks volumes of how highly she is regarded, and not just that, she is a top class songwriter and performer.
Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar
If you have not had your head spun around by this incredible artist and her band of unbelievably talented co vocalists, co musicians and co funsters you'd better be prepared to be blown away, I called her ' bad ass good ! ' in a review of the album she has just released on Gypsy Soul Records ... and that my friends is exactly what she is ! Trust me, you need to see them perform live.
so many more fabulous artists will be in Owen Sound ...
Sarah Harmer, Bahamas, Rose Cousins, Susan Aglukark, Fred Penner and the list goes on ... I hope to see you there, please say hello if you make it out !
It's a Blues music bonanza in Kitchener, Ontario this weekend with the Kitchener Blues Festival ....
An amazing array of talent to be heard and seen comes to town !
Jack De Keyzer, Sue Foley, Cecille Doo Kingue, Ben Racine, Sean Pinchen .. and all the way from London, England none other than The Son Of Dave ( He is performing in Toronto this Saturday also ), trust me ... you need to check these artists out.
A wonderful celebration of the Blues in Southern Ontario.
I know what I'm doing for the next week or so, .... and it ain't sitting in the house with my feet up, I'll be out on the street shufflin' my feet and I hope you will be too !
