Well reality is setting in. The summer of outdoor festivals is over. The fall festivals, such as the Canal Bank Shuffle, are also in the rear-view mirror.
Fall is upon us, and it’s quite evident on my recent trip to Kelowna, British Columbia.
For me, I’m excited by a new venture.
During the summer I attended The Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival. As usual, the Canadian blues artists sparkled.
Hosting a two-hour radio show, Blues Blast, I knew Canuck blues would be front and center.
When I saw some of the International musicians, I couldn’t help but be thrilled by what I was hearing. I decided I need to feature their music. But there was no way I’d abandon Canadian Blues. The solution ? I’ve launched a second radio show on Blues and Roots Radio. It’s a division of Blue Source Entertainment called Blues Source International and airs Fridays at pm and Wednesday at 2 pm. Times are Toronto eastern time.
I was concerned I’d never have enough music to sustain a one-hour radio show. I had some classic blues but very little contemporary international blues. So, I set out emailing blues contacts in the U.K., the U.S. and in Australia.
The trickle of music has become a tsunami. I’m receiving submissions from the U.S., England, Wales, Ireland, Australia, South America, Norway. The list is staggering. And the music is SOOOOO GOOD.
And the artists themselves ? Ask them for a recorded I.D. and you get one in lightning speed.
We need not worry about keeping the blues alive. It’s vibrant. It’s thriving. It’s a living, breathing genre that will always be with us.
I am so proud of the music and musicians that populate the blues universe. Blues Source International will feature albums. We’ll play several cuts in a row from specific releases so audiences can get a true feeling for the flavour of an album. The emphasis will be on the music, with some background info. But mainly it’s gonna be music coming at you in warp speed.
Stay tuned to Blues and Roots Radio. Blues Source International will soon have to morph from one hour to two hours.
