An Essential Journey To Discover Great Music
I am pleased to say we have finished migration of content from our old platform to the brand new website, it's taken a few hours of early mornings and late nights but we got there. There are, as always with major changes like this, some tweaks to be done here and there, but, we are happy that the final stage is here.
The last piece in the puzzle of this complex move is the launch of the new Discover channel schedule !
" What's Discover ? " I hear you say .... well ... read on ...
The Discover Channel
The channel has existed for a while now, just not in the format that it was originally set up for, in saying that it has been hugely successful with syndicated radio shows from other platforms that we gave a home to who have been carving out a large listenership.
The concept originally was, and now is from August 1st, to showcase new music from artists that you probably would never get the chance to hear, certainly not on mainstream radio. The beauty of Blues and Roots Radio is that we are strategically placed around the world, with our HQ just outside Toronto and a base in Australia with hubs in the UK, USA and Ireland, allowing us to keep our ears to the ground on varying scenes in the independent music world. Our hosts bring shows playing music from their own locales as well as music from further afield affording us a fantastic overview of what's happening around the world, giving us the opportunity to bring it all to you through radio shows, blogs, reviews and photography in real time from literally anywhere and everywhere thanks to the technology we use.
So what's the deal with the Discover Channel ?
Our position of receiving and sharing music from around the world on the network gives us a unique chance to hear music that otherwise would not be heard, the quality of music from unsigned independent artists is immense from many genres, we feel at times we are only just scratching the surface, although with fifty radio shows and some of the best radio hosts in their fields from around the world we do a pretty good job.
We felt however that we could create even more opportunities for independent artists to be heard by a wider audience. From August 1st we are taking down all syndicated radio shows on the Discover channel and replacing them with some playlists and a library full of brand new music.
' Unearthed ' Playlist
A new playlist, which will change each month will be created to showcase music that you might not have heard of from many genres from independent artists from around the world.
I have already received tracks from artists who have not even released their albums yet, but wanted tracks to be considered for the list of the first 15,... that's pretty cool for us, the artists and the listener,.
This playlist will air daily at different times across the time zones allowing the music to be heard by as big an audience as possible. The finishing touches are being put together for this playlist at the weekend and it's set to go live on Wednesday August 1st. Artists who do not make the first playlist will still be considered for forthcoming ones, we will be presenting a varied musical journey.
Expect Roots, Americana, Blues, Folk and more from Canada, the USA, UK, Australia, Ireland, Spain and a few more.
I am excited to be bringing this to our listeners !
' Fatea Showcase Sessions ' Playlist
Further strengthening our partnership with Fatea Magazine we will be airing a playlist of artists who have donated tracks to their free download compilation, the artists are from all over the world and deserve recognition for making a track available.

More Chances To Be Heard On Both Channels
Featured Artist Playlist
Along with the new playlists I have mentioned above there will also be the existing station playlists that are additional ways for artists to showcase their musical creations, our daily Featured Artist Show and our Album / EP of the week show.
Both these shows air multiple times daily on both our channels reaching a large audience, there are normally sixteen tracks on the Featured Artist show and the Album / EP of The Week show devotes the airwaves to a chosen release from artists from many genres on the Essential and Discover channels on a weekly basis across all time zones.
These two playlists are paid promotional shows and are extremely popular with both independent artists and listeners alike, for the artists we support them heavily on our website and social media platforms and for the listeners they get the chance to hear new artists and music on both our channels each day, record labels also utilize the opportunity to get their artists airplay and have their music and platforms listened to and read about fitting it into their promotions budget.
It's a great platform to make our audience aware of upcoming new releases as well as older albums that may benefit from a relaunch, or just to highlight tours and performances coming up, and the single track Featured Artist show is a fabulous way to showcase what to expect from an album or EP.
The feedback has been extremely positive as can be seen on our testimonial page
