This is always an exciting week for me in the year, as it ends with the Kazzies, my little tribute to the wonderful music that I follow in this country. I also give a handful of International mentions as well. They are not actual awards - (no shiny statuettes or cash prizes), just a mention or two to some of the people who made my musical year. There are some novelty awards as well, which I will have to explain to my overseas friends, as Aussies have a tongue in cheek way of expressing themselves at times. The "awards night" via Facebook and my own blog runs longer than the Oscars and the Emmys combined, but a lot of people who don't usually get mentioned in awards ceremonies get a little reward of appreciation at The Kazzies - The Purple Guitars.
I will put up the "winners" next week.
Tamworth is looming and I have finally started to put together a schedule for the 10 day Festival. I am usually a little more organized! I am doing things a bit differently this year, booking just a few major gigs and chiefly just going for a wander around various venues checking out some acts that I don't usually get to see during the year. Australia is a big country and though Victoria has been the chief provider of the states this year, there are musos from all states and territories who gather at Australia's Nashville in January, so you get to hear and see new and old artists from all over there and then. We often have overseas guests, particularly from our neighbouring country, New Zealand, who generally put on a showcase or two as well as individual gigs, but mostly it is homegrown performers.
I will be able to do a big story on the festival in January, so I hope that you will enjoy my report.
There are still a few gigs to go before musos put up their feet for a little break over Christmas, hopefully, I will get to some as I haven't been able to go to many gigs lately because of some ear problems and work.
Here are a few of our talented Aussies who have graced our airwaves lately.
Roll on The Kazzies. It has been a great year in Australian country music, I hope that I have introduced you to some great artists that you normally wouldn't have stumbled across. There a couple of big blogs coming before year's end. Enjoy your music, it is definitely the best medicine.
