I have a few reviews coming up this week, plus, the weekend will be full of gigs, probably about 4! There are so many fine musos down here that I am spoiled for choice. I have to make some decisions! Check my blog Cowgirl Up on Wordpress for some more info soon.
Happy to see some of my good muso mates embarking on some big overseas tours. Lachlan Bryan is off this week for the U.S. (try and catch him if you can). There are others off to New Zealand, Europe, Canada and USA. Of course, there are others that are going for big trips around our own country of Australia too.
In the early days of Australian Country Music, our legends, Slim Dusty, Buddy Williams and Brian Young, amongst others, travelled our wide and large land. Geographically, Australia is the same size as the USA. Population wise, our whole country is still shy of one of USA's cities. It is a rugged and beautiful land, but it has many variations in terrain and culture. For a long time, it was only the big towns and cities where both Australian and International acts went to. Now, they are going back to those times. Gretta Ziller and Andrew Swift are going to caravan parks and doing gigs all over the country. Beccy Cole and a series of great artists are hitting the road with fans on a big camp out in various states of Australia. Catherine Britt is doing a residency in outback NSW. There are others, who travel the country side, including Eightball Aitken who is not only covering Australia but also the U.S. Marie Hodson, Sandra Humphries and others are heading off to NZ soon, after appearing at several Aussie festivals.
You really should take country music to the country and not only for festivals but constantly. It is more worthwhile and more appreciated in those small country towns.
