What a great week and a busy one! Went to an amazing songwriting workshop with one of Australia's best songwriters, Allan Caswell. Lloyd Clarke, Cathy Dobson and young guns Nathan Seeckts and Aaron D'arcy were there too as well as lots of young writers and some older ones! I was there mainly to observe the songwriting process but it was lots of fun and I learned a trick or two. We all wrote a song together, chipping in with words and lines and ideas. We then went to see Allan with The Weeping Willows, Rattlin' Cane and The Prairie Oysters for a great night of music. On Sunday, we went back to see Allan at The Mantra with The Long and The Short of It and were entertained in a small gig with lots of Allan's old songs and some new ones. Then we went to the launch of Matt Ward's album at a very quirky little pub in Collingwood called The Gem Bar. Lachlan Bryan, Ben Mastwyk and Katie Bates formed a Superband as the support. It was a big weekend!
Lots of reviews done and more to come this week. Nathan and Matt's albums are already done, and I have Kevin Johnson (another Aussie legend) and Matt Manning's albums to review and probably a few others. Lots of singles have been released this last week. It is a very busy time. I will be doing other things this weekend, probably some along the music line but the weekend after is another big weekend with Matt Joe Gow and Dani Young. We could have gone to several gigs at the same times on the weekend but you can't clone yourself!
Personally, it has been an exciting week for me as I have learned that I will be receiving an award in January at Tamworth. I do what I do because I love doing it and hope to help those who have given me so much joy. It is lovely receiving awards but it is not why I do it.
Don't forget to check out my reviews plus the 4th episode of The Single LIfe and more details of the gigs that I go to on Cowgirl Up at Wordpress.
Here are some songs that I hope that you will like:
