It was a jam packed weekend - full of great music! Saturday night I finally got to see John Flanagan, this time with his String Band at a sold out gig at the Merri Creek Tavern in Melbourne. It was a great night that lived up to all expectations. I would have liked to have heard more, and that is always a good sign, hey?
Unfortunately, Becci Nethery was sick and had to cancel her gig on Sunday, but my Melbourne has many gigs going on and two of Australia's rising stars, Rose Zita Falko and Mitch Power were on at The Union Hotel at Brunswick and they aced it. Rose is more blues/soul and Mitch blends in well as well as singing his own style of music..
Then we went to the Winnebago Lounge at the Caravan Club and we saw two of my favourites, Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes and the hard working Weeping Willows. There were a lot of devotees of the two acts in the crowd so it seemed like a family reunion. The Weeping Willows are about to head to the USA on another tour and they have been flat chat all year on tours and at festivals, here and in Europe and America. They are both honorary members of Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes, so they did their own thing then joined in on the band for most of their set. Lachlan Bryan is one of the finest singer/songwriters in the country. He is always inspirational and always puts on a good show.
Full reviews of these gigs are on my Cowgirlup blog which has a link below. You can also access my previous blogs, CountryAs and A Country Hattitude on there as well.
I also reviewed Michelle Walker's new album, Backbone and there are new albums and singles aplenty at the moment and in the works.
I am having a quiet weekend in this weekend, gearing up for some busy weekends ahead, though there are a few albums and singles to review. There will be so much on that it will be hard to choose, some gigs are already sold out which is a happy problem for Aussie Indies!
