Groundwater Country Music Festival up and running this weekend in Queensland. Lots of artists crammed into a few days and I think that it is mostly free, however, it is a bit too big for me. I like small venues and up close and personal. A lot of people are heading there, though.
I had my first radio training in Victoria last Thursday and another one tomorrow night. I can't wait to get on air and spin some discs again. It will be great to promote those who don't get promoted enough.
Our music community gathered on the weekend at Tamworth to raise money through a concert and various auctions for our farmers in our country music cap, who have been hit by the drought. Times have been pretty tough in my hometown and surrounds and once again, country music artists have gathered to help out a good cause. So far, they have raised over $65,000 dollars, which is awesome.
Brad Butcher, one of my favourite artists, raised awareness and helped put together food hampers and other supplies for the farmers.
Next month, the blues community is getting together to support the family of one of our greatest blues' artists, Chris Wilson, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. I hope to get to this gig in Melbourne. An awesome musician and it is just not fair....but when is it?
Last weekend, I went to see American Joshua Hedley in Melbourne, supported by Lillie Mae and two Aussie acts, Freya Josephine Hollick and and the Bakersfield Glee Club - it was a beaut gig. Sadly, the times were a bit different to advertised so I missed going to see Gretta Ziller afterwards. I believe it was a great gig with Andrew Swift, Mitch Power and others joining Gretta.
This weekend, I am off to see my Tamworth Sisters, Sally-Anne Whitten and Allison Forbes at the Retreat and hopefully a few other gigs....depending on time and location.
Music is a wonderful healer and it just makes us all happy when times are tough.....and even when they aren't. There are some great new albums coming out soon and some teaser singles out there too.
I reviewed Megan Cooper's new album, which is just awesome and Catherine Britt, I think, has released her finest album yet.
They are on my blog, Cowgirl Up.
Hooroo, listen to the music, listen to the words and read between the lines.
