Kenneth Paul Cooper
Album: Place & Time
Label: Self Released
A picture tells a thousand words as they say, the stunning image on the cover of Place & Time speaks to me of journey's, life experience, looking to what the future may hold and what has gone before, the image captures brilliantly what this album is all about, Kenneth Paul Cooper likes to relate a story or two through song.
Born in London, England, Kenneth immigrated to Canada with his parents and grew up in Saskatoon, where he was influenced by the music of the day. Kenneth has performed at venues large and small across Canada and abroad, In 2001 he made an artistic pilgrimage to his birthplace to renew his commitment to songwriting and performing in the clubs of London. Upon returning to Canada, he rapidly earned renown as the warm-spirited host of “ Ken Cooper & Friends ”, a weekly live music venue in Victoria BC. In the spring of 2017, he relocated to Eastern Ontario where he is now reaching a new and appreciative audience and continues to enhance his reputation as a respected writer and engaging performer.
Track 1 " Children Of Dreams ' is the perfect way to start the journey, with references to aspirations of life from various perspectives, weaving a clever path, telling the tale of people in their own place and time, the road is never straight, there are many lay-bys along the way and the dreams of children, as we can all relate to, might not be the reality of life.
' Paris I Remember ' is a beautiful song recalling the innocence of life and recollections of love in one of the most romantic cities in the world, a catchy up beat melody with deft guitar work, If you have ever been to this part of the world you will pick out familiar names of places, if you have not yet had the chance, you'll be booking your flights for a romantic getaway with the one you love after taking in these memories on the banks of the river Seine.
' Declare My Love ' is a stand out track, a beautifully written exaltation of love from the alter, the place where it all began, to the present time and a declaration of undying love. Some intricate guitar playing sets the tone, adding the lift that makes the heart soar.
Place & Time was produced and engineered by Canadian roots music icon, David Essig, who plays a featured instrumental role.
The tracks on the album as a whole, paint wonderful canvasses of time past and present, places full of dreams, memories and life experience. Kenneth Paul Cooper has a wonderful ability to take those feelings and cohesively set them to intricate melodies which enhance the lyrics, taking the songs to another level.
One might call him a poet through song, this album certainly has me recalling some of the great singer / songwriters of the past who pulled their audiences in to their intimate performances, Kenneth and producer David Essig,, have managed to capture this intimate atmosphere, I will remember the Place & Time that I first pressed play and be thankful I became acquainted with Kenneth Paul Cooper and his work.
