ABOUT FOUR CHORDS & THE TRUTH
Andrea England, Nova Scotia-born and Toronto-based, founded and hosts this hugely popular series.
She works successfully in two different music worlds, recording and performing as a solo roots/country artist while placing songs with pop stars and emerging country artists. She’s earned honours in the John Lennon, NSAI, USA and the International Songwriting competitions, and her songs have been recorded by pop and country stars and featured in major TV series as well as in feature films.
Inspired by the “in the round” sessions on Canada’s East Coast and in Nashville, Andrea has established a regular grass-roots series in Toronto which presents a wider range of music.
“It’s a rare opportunity to hear bare-bones versions of songs — from different genres — and the stories that inspired them,” says Andrea, “When you break songs down this way, it’s easy to see that at the end of the day, they’re all ‘folk’ songs and we’re all just folk singers.”
Blues & Roots Radio is proud to bring special shows including exclusive interviews with each artist from the Four Chords and The Truth events in Toronto since it's inception in 2015, these shows can be heard on our archive page
Great Dark Wonder
Lesley Carter ~ Exposed to the wonders of CBC and Montréal Canadiens hockey as a teenager thanks to a satellite dish in rural Kansas, I have been an unabashed lover of all things Canadian ever since. I am a lifelong collector of esoteric and varied music, a teacher of piano, and an aspiring multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, mandola, ukulele). In real life, I work in the field of technology.
Martin Noakes ~ The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
We are passionate fans of Canadian music who are stuck south of the border… but we don’t let geography get in the way of following our favorite music.
Blues & Roots Radio is proud to feature all that Great Dark Wonder has to offer by way of reviews of singles, albums and performances by Canadian artists.

ABOUT FATEA MAGAZINE
Having been in, written songs for or managed bands in the Poole/Dorset area of England for a number of years, Neil King founded Fatea at the end of the 80s.
Fatea Magazine was published to bring bands being ignored by the likes of NME and Melody Maker to a wider audience. At it's peak Fatea had a readership of well over ten thousand and had featured literally hundreds of artists within it's pages. It had also released a number of cassettes in association with record labels like Cooking Vinyl and Hannibal records.
In addition it released a number of flexidiscs on it's own Fatea label. This was followed by the publication of Music From a New Dimension, the UKs first CD-ROM Based music magazine. Music From A New Dimension released over 30 tracks from a diverse set of artists that included Fish, Roy Harper, June Tabor, The Whiskey Priests, Goats Don't Shave and the Poozies.
Whilst the magazines have ceased publication in paper form, Fatea magazine is alive and well as a website.
Fatea now publishes a number of websites, the majority linked to furthering acoustic based music.
All of the Fatea Websites are not for profit and updated as regularly as possible.
Neil King is the managing editor for the following:
Fatea Magazine / Fatea Showcase Sessions / Cambridge Folk Festival / Fatea Showcase Gallery
Blues & Roots Radio have many album reviews published in Fatea Magazine and we have links on our Album Review page to reviews Fatea publishes on their website each week.
We are proud to be the media outlet Fatea has chosen since 2015 to broadcast their annual awards show

ABOUT THE ACOUSTIC YARD
‘The Acoustic Yard singer/songwriter sessions’ initially started up as a monthly event in Matt Molloy’s Yard Bar in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland in February 2014.
The main focus was for singer/songwriters to have a platform to perform their own songs and for audiences to listen to original music in a relaxed environment. A key aim was to help to invigorate and stimulate songwriting and to supply an evening of entertainment.
Due to the success of this event, the idea of ‘The Acoustic Yard Singer/Songwriters Festival’ was born and developed to include The Acoustic Yard Radio Show which was created simultaneously. The radio programme can be heard here on Blues and Roots Radio and features independent singer/songwriters mostly from Ireland.
