On The Road
The Blues Source van sure covered some distances lately. We headed out on Monday July 9th and headed towards Ottawa. We hooked up with Murray Kinsley and Leigh-Anne Stanton of the award-winning band, Wicked Grin. We had a great time with these fabulous folks and they treated us to a sneak preview of 3 mixed tunes from their upcoming new cd. WOW is the word that comes to mind. This is gonna be one dynamite cd, coming this fall.
Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival July 5th to 14th
The Festival was in full swing when we arrived on the Tuesday. What a fantastic event! And since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m gonna bombard you with a ton of pics.
The Blues Festival takes place in the Pedestrian Village in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
It calls to mind the Curtis Salgado tune “Walk A Mile in My Blues”. In reality, it was Walk Many Miles in My Blues.
There are stages at the bottom as well as the top of the mountain. To get up and down you can ride the lift for free.
There are reminders everywhere that this is blues paradise.
The first musician we caught was Adam Karch doing an acoustic set
Then Bad Luck Woman and her Misfortunes
Up next, International Blues Challenge winners, Dawn Tyler Watson and Ben Racine
We saw the first of two shows with Victor Wainwright who was just amazing. And then Dawn Tyler Watson joined Victor on stage for an incredible scat session.
Great way to start the day with Pat Loiselle
Then it was another dose of Victor Wainwright on a smaller, more intimate stage. He had everyone bopping to his music, but he also had everyone laughing at his between-song banter.
What an entertainer!
Spencer MacKenzie dropped by to enjoy the fun.
And then it was Angel Forrest, 5 times in a row, Winner of Female Vocalist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awads.
Her band featured Ricky Paquette and Denis Coulombe
Then it was time for the Ice Queen, Sue Foley to hit the stage.
And the put the icing on the cake, International star Beth Hart wowed the audience.
What a day that was, but we had 2 more days to tap our toes.
And we’ll continue Part Two of our highlight of the 25th Annual Mont Tremblant International Music Festival, next week.
