Hamilton Blues Weekend
There’s nothing more satisfying than spending a Saturday catching the blues. Especially when you get to introduce your blues scene to friends from outside the area.
This past Saturday, it was a Blues Blast time with Stevie and Anne Connor, the driving forces that have created the best online radio station around. (Stevie likes to say ‘allegedly the best’ but I don’t think allegedly needs to be added.
Blues and Roots Radio is heard all around the world. Originating from its Port Credit Ontario broadcast centre, BRR has listeners across Canada, the U.S., Australia, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands. Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Japan, Well you get the idea. Listeners are from all over the world.
But I digress.
Last Saturday, Stevie and Anne hopped into their Blues and Roots touring vehicle and made their way to Hamilton.
We immediately (well maybe not quite immediately) headed out for an afternoon matinee of blues at the Corktown pub to help celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Hamilton Blues Lovers and their blog blueshamilton.blogspot.com/
Luis Pereira and Linda Fraser and Trebleclef, the Music-Loving Monkey, have been covering the music scene in Hamilton for a decade now.
This pic was snapped by Rhonda Lueck, and I’ll have a little more to say about her shortly.
When we arrived, you could tell the wave of support for their efforts by the fact the place was absolutely jammed. Trying to get close to the stage for pictures proved to be a difficult task so I don’t have many pictures.
It was a great afternoon of performances by Trickbag,
Sonny Del Rio,
Lily Sazz and Cootes Paradise were there. So was Tim Gibbons. Plus, some members of Crowbar.
Our group hung out with Corey and Rhonda Lueck.
Corey and his music is not the only talent in the family, Rhonda is an amazing artist. Her oil paintings are stunning.
We grabbed some pub grub downtown and then headed over to the Spice Factory for the 4th Annual Andre Bisson salute to the Beatles.
It was an extraordinary evening of great music. This was not anywhere near an attempt to mimic the Beatles. Several years ago Andre Bisson was invited to perform at Beatles Week in Liverpool on the strength of his bluesy arrangements of Beatles tunes. His band took the stage at the Cavern and simply knocked ‘em dead. If only the Beatles had this band with them, they might’ve amounted to something 😊
Here are some pictures from the performance.
Andre also put out a limited-edition cd of Beatles tunes which sold like life preserves on the Titanic.
I also need to add that Andre’s band is better known for their own original compositions and tunes His latest cd is Break and it’s well worth having in your collection.
Next up, the Blues and Roots Radio crew, and the Blues Blast crew will travel to St. Catharines to catch the Mighty Duck Blues Band with special guest, Samantah Martin on December 8.
Here’s what’s happening with the Duck Band
A Couple of Quick Hits
